Vegetable Patch Pest Contols:
Grey aphids, white butterfly larvae (bluish-green caterpillars), other caterpillars.
The above can be kept in check by spraying occasionally with pyrethrum which can be regarded as non toxic, or by dusting with one of the commercial cabbage dusts.  The cabbage dusts usually contain derris or rotenone plus carbaryl, which is more lethal to caterpillars and other chewing insects.

Although toxic, carbaryl is rapidly bio-degradable, leaving an appreciable residue on the plants for only three days.  In all cases though, it is desirable to wash foliage before use.
